Challenge
Drummond Clinic & Sportsfeet UK was established in 1998. Over the years it has grown in both services and reputation in Maidenhead and the Thames Valley. We have brought together a specialist team of therapists that include General Physiotherapy, Sports Physiotherapy, Injury Rehabilitation, Biomechanics & Orthotics, Strength & Conditioning, Pilates, Sports Massage and Reflexology.
Drummond Clinic needed to redesign their website – a complete overhaul of the design as well as implementing a new Content Management System.
The main objectives were to:
- Create a design from scratch
- Provide each section with solid imagery
- Give users a home page with a related starting-points
- Implement an extensible CMS
- Create an email creation plugin for WordPress
Solution
Design
The old website wasn’t online anymore so I had to start from scratch on the design.
I read through the copy and images sent. The biggest problem I encountered was trying to fit two brands into one website without trying to confuse the users. Initial thoughts were to put both brands on the header with the intention of eventually phrasing one brand, to put all their services under one umbrella. It was important to stick one colour scheme and desaturate the logos – trying to bring the brands ever closer.

Connecting with the user
I thought it was important to give users direction from the home page. The initial design would explain what each brand does with a link taking the user to a dedicated page.

Where the above design goes wrong is how connects with the user. Most users have a propose for visiting a site and to show the Drummond Clinic’s services through a first-person perspective would slightly help the user’s propose.

Development
A new CMS had to be implemented (as the old version was now non-existent) – one with good extensibility and documentation to help Drummond Clinic along the way.
WordPress
Using this blogging software with its sophisticated article management. It was possible to create a CMS which allowed different types of data entry dependent on its category.
WordPress Plugins
Plugins were created for each different section of the website to capture extra meta data.
A requirement was to allow each service page to display a video. A youtube plugin was installed which allowed the ability to import videos by specifying the video id from the youtube website.
Other meta data such as fees information, testimonial and page sponsor were also added in.
A further request for the capability to produce an email from specific articles created within WordPress. A new plugin was created WP Emaily and is now on the WordPress Plugins site. It allows for multiple themes, downloading the email as a ZIP and other features.
